Three persons arrested for allegedly raping a medical student in West Bengal's Durgapur were remanded to 10 days' police custody by a local court here on Sunday.

A second-year student of a private medical college was allegedly gangraped in Durgapur on Friday night. The survivor is from Jaleswar, Odisha.

On Thursday, two explosions were heard in the Afghan capital and another in the southeast of the country. The following day, the Taliban-run defence ministry blamed the attacks on Pakistan, accusing its neighbor of violating its sovereignty.

According to the Afghan Defense Ministry, “Pakistani side’s facilities and equipment were destroyed in attacks.” It further claimed that one outpost each across Kunar and Helmand had been destroyed, while Pakistani forces reportedly suffered casualties and lost several weapons and vehicles to the Taliban fighters.

Taliban forces seized multiple Pakistani outposts along the Durand Line, killing 12 soldiers, in retaliatory cross-border clashes after a Pakistani airstrike in Kabul this week.

“The kingdom calls for restraint, avoiding escalation, and embracing dialogue and wisdom to contribute to reducing tensions and maintaining security and stability in the region,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry said.

Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi called on his country’s two neighbours “to exercise restraint”.

Clashes come as tensions escalate over an air strike on Kabul that the Taliban blames on Islamabad.
