In a letter to multiple Chief Ministers and former Chief Ministers on Thursday, MK Stalin invited them to be part of a 'joint action committee' of political parties against the delimitation exercise proposed by the Centre.
Terming the government's push for delimitation a "blatant assault on federalism", the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister urged his counterparts to put up “an uncompromising fight against this unfair exercise”.
In a social media post on X, Stalin said, "The Union govt's plan for Delimitation is a blatant assault on federalism, punishing States that ensured population control & good governance by stripping away our rightful voice in Parliament. We will not allow this democratic injustice! I have written to Hon'ble chief ministers Thiru Pinarayi Vijayan, Siddaramaiah, Revanth Reddy, Chandrababu Naidu, Mamata Banerjee, Bhagwant Mann and Mohan Majhi and party heads in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, West Bengal, Odisha & Punjab, calling for an uncompromising fight against this unfair exercise.”

Stalin has invited Kerala's Pinarayi Vijayan, Karnataka's Siddaramaiah, Telangana's Revanth Reddy, Andhra Pradesh's Chandrababu Naidu, and Puducherry's N Rangaswamy, as well as Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Odisha's Mohan Chandra Majh for a meeting in Chennai on March 22 "to chart a collective course".
This comes amid the ongoing rift between Tamil Nadu chief minister and Centre over delimitation and New Education Policy.
The CM has repeteadly expressed concern about the potential reduction in Parliamentary seats, attributing it to the state's successful implementation of family planning initiatives. He had also suggested newly married couples to start families quickly to ensure adequate political representation post-delimitation. He acknowledged the state's successful family planning initiatives but expressed worry about their current implications. He also advised the couples to proper Tamil names for their future children.
Stalin's wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he asked the Prime Minister to ensure that delimitation, if to be done now, is based on 1971 population data and then frozen for 30 years to motivate other states to control growth.
