A SpiceJet flight bound for Mumbai from Delhi on Monday experienced a significant delay after two passengers were offloaded for attempting to approach the cockpit while the aircraft was taxiing.
According to a statement from the airline, the incident took place on flight SG 9282 before takeoff. Despite multiple warnings from the cabin crew, fellow passengers, and the Captain, the individuals involved refused to comply and return to their seats, causing a disruption onboard.
"In the interest of passenger and crew safety, the Captain made the decision to return the aircraft to the parking bay," a SpiceJet spokesperson said. The two individuals were removed from the flight and handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for further action.
A clip of the incident has gone viral. The video shows fellow passengers urging the unruly individuals to sit down. “You cannot stop a plane like this; this is illegal,” one passenger says. From the rear of the cabin, a response comes demanding that the air conditioning be turned on (AC chala de na, hum baith jayenge). Some passengers are then heard asking the cabin crew to call CISF security personnel and remove the disruptive flyers. “Those who don’t want to go, make sure they get down,” says one flier.
The airline clarified that the incident occurred on July 14, 2025. “Two unruly flyers attempted to forcefully approach the cockpit during taxiing and created a disturbance despite repeated warnings,” the spokesperson added.
As a result of the disruption, the flight faced a nearly seven-hour delay. Flight tracking data from Flightradar24.com indicates that the aircraft eventually departed at 7:21 PM.
