Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during his reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Without taking Kejriwal’s name, PM Modi took a sharp swipe and said that “some leaders focussed on jacuzzi, stylish showers, but our focus has been on providing water to every home.”
The BJP has been attacking Kejriwal for the allegedly using government funds for beautifying his Delhi residence. Last year in December, the BJP had claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party had used nearly Rs 50 crore to renovate Kejriwal’s bungalow during coronavirus pandemic. In his direct jibe at Kejriwal, PM Modi also said, “BJP spent money for national development, not building sheesh mahal.”
The ‘sheesh mahal’ jibe stems from the leaked CAG report on Delhi government’s performance. The report, which was never officially released, had said that Rs 33 crore were spent by the AAP on renovating Kejriwal’s official residence. The bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road had got several high-value things such as 88-inch OLED TV, washing machine for Rs 1.9 lakh.
The jacuzzi jibe by PM Modi referred to Rs 19.5 lakh spent on luxury features in the bathroom such as sauna, spa and jacuzzi.
