Shopkeeper slaps woman multiple times in an alleged robbery bid at jewellery shop throwing chilli powder

A dramatic scene unfolded in AhmedabadтАЩs Ranip area on November 3, when a woman allegedly tried to rob a jewellery shop but ended up being slapped nearly 20 times in less than half a minute.

According to a report by NDTV, the purported CCTV footage from around 12:30 pm shows the woman, her face covered with a dupatta, walking into a gold and silver store near the Ranip vegetable market, pretending to be a customer. Moments later, she hurled chilli powder at the jeweller in an attempt to blind him and execute a robbery.

But things didnтАЩt go her way -- the powder missed its mark. Realising what she was trying to do, the shopkeeper quickly stood up and began slapping her continuously, landing around 20 blows in 25 seconds. He then leapt over the counter, dragged her out of the shop, and kept slapping her.

The shocking footage has gone viral across social media platforms. Despite the intense altercation, police said the jeweller has refused to press charges. тАЬThe complainant was personally met twice to obtain a statement in this regard and was asked to file the complaint, but the complainant businessman is not inclined to lodge any complaint in this matter,тАЭ the Ahmedabad Police said in a post on X.

According to the report, Ranip Police StationтАЩs PI Ketan Vyas confirmed that while the shopkeeper is unwilling to register a case, officers have begun tracing the woman using CCTV recordings. тАЬNevertheless, an investigation has been initiated to search for the accused based on the CCTV footage,тАЭ the police statement added.

According to officials, efforts are underway to identify the woman involved, even though the shopkeeper has chosen not to pursue legal action.
