Stepping up his attack on Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that the party leaders were speaking on the lines of Pakistani propaganda.
“The country is shocked that Congress has given a clean chit to Pakistan. They just can't get rid of this habit. And, look at their audacity -- they are asking for proof that the Pahalgam terrorists were from Pakistan. What is this behaviour? This is exactly what Pakistan is demanding -- the same as what Congress is saying,” the Prime Minister said in an address to Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister further remarked that Congress’s negative stance towards the armed forces is not new, but part of its long-standing approach.
“A certain negativity towards the armed forces has been the old attitude of the Congress. The country has just recently celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas. But the entire nation knows very well that during Kargil and even till today, Congress has never truly embraced Kargil Vijay Diwas,” the Prime Minister said.
He was responding to a discussion on Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attach that claimed 26 lives.
His remarks came days after Congress leader and former union minister P Chidambaram sparked controversy with his remarks on the Pahalgam attack. In a video interview with The Quint, Chidambaram said the attackers “for all we know could be homegrown terrorists” and questioned, “why do you assume that they came from Pakistan?”
During his speech, the Prime Minister said, "On one hand, India is moving ahead at a fast pace towards self-reliance, but Congress is becoming dependent on Pakistan for issues. Unfortunately, Congress is importing issues from Pakistan."
