Sukhbir Singh Badal was re-elected as the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal during the party's general delegate session held in Amritsar on Saturday.
His name was put forward by the party's working president, Balwinder Singh Bhundar, and was seconded by senior leader Paramjit Singh Sarna.
The session for electing the new Shiromani Akali Dal president took place at Teja Singh Samundari Hall, located within the Sri Darbar Sahib complex.
Several prominent party leaders were present at the event, including Badal's wife and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, former ministers Bikram Singh Majithia and Daljit Singh Cheema, along with senior leader Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal.
On November 16, 2024, Sukhbir Singh Badal submitted his resignation from the post of party president after being declared a 'tankhaiya' (guilty of religious misconduct) by the Akal Takht for "mistakes" attributed to the SAD and its government during the 2007 to 2017 period.
His resignation was formally accepted by the party's working committee in January, following which the Shiromani Akali Dal launched a fresh membership drive.
