A second exchange of fire in Andhra Pradesh within 24 hours left seven Maoists dead early Wednesday in a forested area, with security forces tightening surveillance across the region.

“In continuation with Tuesday’s operation, seven Maoists have died until now, according to information received from the field,” AP Intelligence ADG Mahesh Chandra Laddha said at a press briefing.

Among the deceased is Meturi Joga Rao, alias Shankar. Others identified include Jyothi, alias Saritha,  a former guard commander to Nambala Kesava Rao, Suresh (alias Ramesh), Lokesh (alias Ganesh), who served as the Jagargonda area Militia Commander, along with Sainu (alias Vasu), Anitha and Shammi.

The latest encounter follows Monday’s operation (November 17), during which top Maoist leader and Central Committee member Madvi Hidma was killed along with five others.

ADG Laddha said ongoing crackdowns have also led to the arrest of 50 individuals across NTR, Krishna, Eluru, Kakinada and Konaseema districts.
