Security of Bollywood Celebs: Ever looming challenge for these 7 police stations of Mumbai

From Amitabh Bachchan to Dharmendra, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Akshay Kumar, these celebrities live within the jurisdiction of these stations.

As the home of Bollywood, Mumbai places a significant responsibility on the police to protect its film personalities.

"If a celeb like Saif Ali Khan is not safe inside his home in Mumbai, who else is?" The opposition parties in Maharashtra are targeting the Devendra Fadnavis government with this question who holds the home portfolio. Now, Mumbai Police can breathe a sigh of relief after nabbing the attacker of actor Saif Ali Khan, but ensuring the safety of Bollywood celebrities remains an ever-looming challenge. As the home of Bollywood, Mumbai places a significant responsibility on the police to protect its film personalities.

In Mumbai’s western suburbs, seven police stations oversee areas where most of Bollywood’s glittering world resides. From Amitabh Bachchan to Dharmendra, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Akshay Kumar, these celebrities live within the jurisdiction of these stations. The 1990s saw the underworld spilling blood in these regions, particularly targeting Bollywood figures. While the era of the underworld has faded, ensuring the safety of these stars continues to test Mumbai Police.

Bollywood’s Hub: The Seven Police Stations

Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Juhu, Versova, D.N. Nagar, and Oshiwara police stations serve as guardians for Bollywood’s elite. These areas are home to not only numerous celebrities but also film studios and production offices. After South Mumbai’s Cuffe Parade and Malabar Hill, these western suburbs are among the city’s most expensive real estate zones.

The juxtaposition in these areas is striking: alongside luxurious buildings and sprawling bungalows lie densely populated slums. Struggling artists from far-off regions live alongside stars earning crores.

Amitabh Bachchan’s Bungalow: A Security Challenge

Juhu Police Station faces one of the most challenging tasks—ensuring the safety of Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalows, Jalsa and Prateeksha. Despite hiring private security agencies, multiple intrusion incidents have occurred over the past 25 years.

October 2002: An 18-year-old named Pappu Sharma scaled the back wall with a knife but was apprehended by security guards in time.

July 2012: A man named Deepak Kewat, 30, managed to reach Bachchan’s bedroom via the balcony.

2013: An intruder stole Rs 8,000 from Jalsa.

Fans' Obsession:

A Headache for Police

Amitabh Bachchan’s fanbase often gathers outside his residence, hoping for a glimpse of the star. Some fans even attempt to sneak inside under various pretexts, forcing the police to intervene regularly.

Bandra Police Station: The Khan Connection

The Bandra Police Station jurisdiction covers the residences of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Rekha. Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat frequently sees intrusion attempts, necessitating a constant police presence.

Similarly, Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments has turned into a fortress due to threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The heightened security measures have transformed the area into a near-military zone.

Technology and Security Measures Fall Short

Despite advanced CCTV surveillance and modern security equipment, incidents of theft and intrusion at celebrities’ residences remain alarming. In Saif Ali Khan’s case, burglars not only entered his home but also injured him.

For Mumbai Police, the challenge transcends individual safety - it is a matter of the city’s reputation as the glamorous capital of India. Safeguarding Bollywood’s biggest stars remains a task of utmost priority and complexity.
