The Supreme Court on Monday directed former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar to appear before the Delhi Police on May 2 in connection with allegations of cheating and misusing OBC and disability quotas in the 2022 UPSC civil services examination.
A bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma granted interim protection to Khedkar, stating that no coercive action should be taken against her until the next hearing on May 21. The court noted that no substantial investigation had been conducted so far and instructed Delhi Police to expedite the probe.
Appearing for the Delhi Police, Additional Solicitor General S V Raju argued that custodial interrogation of Khedkar was necessary. However, the court refrained from allowing it at this stage.
Khedkar is accused of misrepresenting her credentials to avail reservation benefits. While she has denied the allegations, the Delhi High Court had earlier rejected her anticipatory bail plea, citing a strong prima facie case and the need to probe a "larger conspiracy" to manipulate the system.
The UPSC has taken disciplinary action against Khedkar, including filing a criminal complaint. Delhi Police have also registered an FIR under multiple sections.
