Shiv Sena (UBT) chief and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday slammed the BJP for its newly-launched Saugat-e-Modi scheme, stating that they have abandoned Hindutva and resorted to 'satta jihad' (power jihad).

Thackeray criticised the move, and labelling the program as Saugat-e-Satta', accusing the BJP for using the scheme as a gimmick for electoral gains. “Is 'Saugat-e-Satta' only for the Bihar and UP elections, or will it continue beyond that?”

"BJP should officially announce that they have abandoned Hindutva. They are distributing 'Saugat-e-Satta' to those whose houses were demolished by bulldozers and to many who lost their lives in communal riots," Thackeray said.

What is Sougat-e-Modi Scheme

On Tuesday, the BJP launched a nationwide outreach programme on Tuesday for economically weaker Muslim families ahead of Eid, a move seen as an effort to garner support from the community in the run-up to the Bihar Assembly polls scheduled for later this year.

The 'Saugat-e-Modi' campaign is expected to benefit 32 lakh underprivileged Muslims across the nation, who would receive special kits to celebrate Eid. It kicked off from Nizamuddin in southeast Delhi under the guidance of BJP chief JP Nadda.
