The Sambhal district administration in Uttar Pradesh has decided to cover the Sambhal Jama Masjid with tarpaulin sheets in preparation for the Holi festival.

As reported by India Today, the Sambhal police in Uttar Pradesh have decided to cover 10 mosques along the route of the Holi procession in the same manner.

Videos shared by the news agency ANI on the social media platform X showed the authorities covering the mosque with sheets.

This year, Holi falls on the same day as Friday prayers during the holy month of Ramzan.

A police officer explained that the decision was taken to ensure the smooth execution of both religious events.

The Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal has been involved in a legal dispute after Hindu petitioners argued that it was constructed on the site of a Hindu temple called Hari Mandir.

Violence broke out in Sambhal during a court-ordered survey of the Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid on November 24 last year, leaving five people dead and over 20 police officers injured.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shrishchandra told India Today that all religious sites along the traditional Holi procession route would be coveredfollowing mutual agreement between both communities
