The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has taken strong exception to being "unnecessarily" dragged into political discourse, claiming that it harbours no intentions to engage with politically driven narratives.
"Spare the Sangh from such political conversations. We are a social organisation committed to constructive work, not political rhetoric. We do our work organically," Sunil Ambekar, the RSS’s Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, said.
Ambekar said that an organisation like the Sangh should not be dragged into political controversies as Sangh’s identity has always been of a social and cultural organization that remains focussed on "nation-building".
The comments came amid a relentless attack by Opposition parties, particularly the Congress. The latest such attack came from Karnataka minister and Congress president's son Priyank Kharge who said that the RSS would be banned in the country if the party comes to power at the Centre.
“The RSS does not function like a political party and remains committed to its grassroots social work. People support the Sangh’s work, and they get associated. Political parties should stop unnecessarily involving the Sangh in their discourse," Ambekar said.
The remarks came a day before the RSS began a three-day Akhil Bharatiya Prant Pracharak Baithak rom July4-6 at Keshav Kunj in Delhi with a focus on preparations for the Shatabdi Varsh (Centenary Year) in 2025-26.
Issues pertaining to Operation Sindoor, atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, and other geopolitical, social, and border issues, including religious conversion and Khalistani issues in Punjab, will be discussed in the meeting that will be attended by around 46 prant pracharaks from across states and 233 karyakartas.
The centenary year of the RSS will officially begin with a grand programme in Nagpur on Vijay Dashami, October 2. Regional and zonal programmes will follow along with "Hindu Sammelan" across states.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat will also undertake a pravas (outreach tour) of four major cities—Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata—as part of the centenary outreach.
