The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), on Monday, expelled 27 leaders, including two sitting MLAs, four former legislators, and one former MLC, for alleged anti-party activities and “defying the organisation’s ideology” ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
In an official statement, RJD state president Mangani Lal Mandal said the disciplinary action included suspension from the party’s primary membership.
“The RJD took this step after finding that these leaders were engaged in activities against the party or Mahagathbandhan nominees,” the statement noted.
The expelled MLAs are Chote Lal Rai from Parasa and Mohammad Kamran from Govindpur. Former MLAs Ram Prakash Mahto, Anil Sahni, Saroj Yadav, and Anil Yadav, along with former MLC Ganesh Bharti, were also among those removed.
A senior RJD leader said the expelled members were “working against the officially declared candidates of the INDIA bloc and the RJD.”
The disciplinary action comes as the 243-member Bihar Assembly heads for polls in two phases, on November 6 and November 11. Counting of votes will take place on November 14.
