Dr Sangita Reddy, joint MD of Apollo Hospitals Group & chairperson of G20 Empower India on Tuesday said that there is a gap which needs to be corrected on multiple levels when asked what India needs to do to prioritize women in the workforce. Dr Reddy made this remark at Network 18’s Rising Bharat Summit 2025.
Earlier, she said that there are 483 million women in working age group and their contribution to GDP is 18%. However, there are 343 million women who are are actually working in the unorganised sector, which does’t get acknowledged.
“It is clearly if these women had equal opportunities, equal pay and an equal ability, the contribution to GDP would be over 770 billion. The entrepreneurial spirit, the need to make money, the need to be relevant is all translating now into this. It is a beautiful moment in time when we can take it to the next level. The big point is there is a gap, we need to correct it on multiple levels, the potential and spirit is there and women who have been given an opportunity have made it happen,” said Sangita Reddy.
