Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said that the "right to vote should be only available to those who are citizens of this country".
Shah was addressing a gathering at the Narendra Mohan Memorial Lecture and Literary Creation Awards ceremony. "The increase in the Muslim population is a result of infiltration from Bangladesh and Pakistan," he said.
On the SIR exercise carried out by the Election Commission in poll-bound Bihar, Shah said, "No one should interfere in the SIR exercise as it is the constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission."
He added, "We will follow the detect, delete and deport process for infiltrators. Right to vote should be only available to those who are citizens of this country."
While addressing the event, Shah said, "Infiltration shouldn't be seen from a political angle, infiltrators shouldn't be given political protection."
