Reserve Bank seeks applications for CEO's role to lead Innovation Hub

Sources aware of the matter told Moneycontrol that current CEO Rajesh Bansal is unlikely to continue with the Innovation Hub

The tenure of the position will be for three years and the CEO will report directly to the bank’s board of governors, the statement said.

Reserve Bank of India’s Innovation Hub (RBIIH) is looking to appoint a chief executive officer to lead its technology-based innovation across the financial sector and forge faster partnership among all the stakeholders, the central bank said in a notification on January 24.

Sources aware of the matter told Moneycontrol that current CEO Rajesh Bansal is unlikely to continue with RBIIH and to fill his position the advertisement has been issued.

Bansal, who was the founding team member of Aadhaar and led the country's direct benefits transfer scheme, was appointed as the CEO in 2021. He has over three decades of digital tech experience across Asia and Africa and considered one of the key architects of India's payments tech revolution.

The primary responsibility of the new top executive will be to position the innovation hub as the global centre of excellence by delivering cutting-edge public goods with new-generation technologies, the notification seeking candidates said.

The CEO will also be required to build tie-ups with the financial sector ecosystem, including with start-ups, academia, global institutions, regulators and other private and government entities.

The potential candidate should have a minimum experience of over 15 years in fields such as finance, payments, technology in multiple roles with a preference for global experience, the notification said.

The tenure of the position will be for three years and the CEO will report directly to the bank’s board of governors, the statement said.
