A Delhi court on Thursday remanded Dr Muzammil Ganaie, Shaheen Shahid and two others to 10 days of National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody in connection with the November 10 explosion near the Red Fort that claimed multiple lives.
The Patiala House Court passed the order after the NIA produced the four men, who were earlier arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police for their alleged involvement in what authorities described as a “white-collar terror module.”
The individuals, Muzammil Ganaie, Adeel Rather, Shaheen Shahid and Maulvi Irfan Ahmed Wagay, a preacher, were taken into NIA custody in Srinagar on the basis of production warrants issued by the district sessions judge in Delhi, the agency said in a statement.
What did NIA say?
According to an NIA spokesperson, “They had all played a key role in the terror attack that killed several innocent persons and left many others injured, as per NIA investigations.”
The NIA is continuing its probe into the blast, which triggered a major security review in the national capital.
Family denies links
Meanwhile, the family of Dr. Muzammil Ganaie, who was arrested after investigators found 360 kg of explosives at his rented residence in Faridabad, said on Tuesday that they had no knowledge of any alleged terror links.
Speaking from their home in Pulwama days after the explosion that took place near the Red Fort, Jammu and Kashmir, his mother, Naseema, said Muzammil had moved away nearly four years ago to take up a medical job in Delhi, and the family had little information about his life since then.
“We had no information about him during this period. We only learned of his arrest through others,” she told reporters. She also claimed that authorities did not permit them to meet him following his arrest, adding that “police did not allow the family to meet him after his detention.”
