According to sources, the railway ministry will fast track 500 out of its 1,900 pending projects in the year 2018. It is unclear how long these projects have been pending, but the ministry seeks to complete a major part of them in this financial year, and ask for funds from the finance ministry accordingly.
Some of these projects include railway management, track management, disaster management and accounting reforms. One of the major projects to be undertaken by the ministry is that of e-ticketing. Piyush Goyal has been saying that IRCTC’s listing project has been put on hold. The ministry is appointing nodal officers to give roadmap on how the projects will be pursued and fast-tracked.
Railways also has a vision of increasing its production of wagons and locomotives by three times, across its units in the country, although plans of how these projects will be implemented have been asked for.
