During a tea meeting post the adjournment of Lok Sabha on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told NDA leaders that several young leaders in the opposition – specifically in the Congress party – are very talented but do not get an opportunity to speak due to family insecurity.
The presence of such young leaders could be making Congress leader Rahul Gandhi insecure and nervous, News18 said in a report.
Opposition leaders, including Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, skipped the meet called after the sine die (for an indefinite period) adjournment of Parliament monsoon session. Therefore, it was limited to only the ruling NDA alliance.
Sources cited in the report also said that the Prime Minister described the recently concluded Parliament session as a good one as a number of important bills were passed – including the Online Gaming Bill, which PM Modi specifically praised.
The Prime Minister also criticised the Opposition over staying away from discussions on major legislations. “They only remained engaged in creating disruption,” he said.
The monsoon session commenced on July 21, in which the entire Opposition disrupted proceedings daily, seeking a discussion on the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
After his valedictory address today, Lok Sabha speaker Birla adjourned the House sine die.
In his final address on the last day of the session, Birla expressed concern over the lack of decorum and traditions in the House and criticised the Opposition for "planned disruptions" and "sloganeering."
He emphasised the need for dignified discussions.
Birla attributed the House's limited productivity of 37 hours to "planned disruptions and ruckus," which fell short of the targeted 120 hours of discussion.
Twelve bills were passed by the Lok Sabha during the month-long monsoon session of Parliament.
