Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday lauded the contribution of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in nation-building.
“Heartfelt congratulations on the centenary year of the world's largest voluntary organization, 'Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh'. In this grand journey of the Sangh Centenary, I bow to all the dedicated workers of @RSSorg who have devoted their all for the service, security, and empathy towards Mother India,” the home minister posted on X.
Shah said renouncing all comforts and luxuries to dedicate one's entire life to the service of the nation as a swayamsevak and pracharak is not easy.
“Over 100 years, countless swayamsevaks and pracharaks of the Sangh have demonstrated this through sacrifice and dedication. Under the revered leadership of Hedgewar Ji, the Sangh, which began in Nagpur on the day of Vijayadashami in 1925 with a few people, has today become the world's largest social organization through dedication to the individual and the nation, and organisational skills. I am myself,” said Shah.
As a boy, Shah was always inspired by the stories of the great patriots of the nation and dreamt of working for the progress of the motherland. He was especially inspiredby the vision of RSS and became its active member in Ahmedabad.
The RSS on Thursday formally began its special Vijayadashami celebrations at the Reshimbagh grounds in Nagpur. Former President Ram Nath Kovind was the chief guest for this ceremony. The organisation, considered as the ruling BJP’s ideological fountainhead, is set to complete 100 years this year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday released a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and a silver coin to mark the centenary celebrations of the RSS.
The PM also explained the significance of the commemorative coin. “In the Rs 100 coin, on one side is the National Emblem and on the other side, Bharat Mata’s Varada Mudra image along with that of a lion and Swayamsevak bowing down to her with all dedication. This is the first time in the history of Independent India that an image of Bharat Mata has been shown on our currency,” he said.
