Political inclination to ongoing probe: Things to know about Tyler Robinson, the shooter who killed Charlie Kirk

Authorities on Friday said that they have taken Tyler Robinson into custody, after suspecting that he was the one who killed the conservative activist Charlie Kirk at an event at Utah Valley University in the United States. Charlie died after being shot in the neck by Robinson. A video of the assassination surfaced later on social media.

There are some facts about Robinson that have surfaced since then. From his political inclination to the probe that has now been initiated against him, the facts have reached a crucial point in the understanding of the murder and the reasons behind it.

1.  Probe into his online activity

As per media reports, the FBI is now examining the presence that Robinson had on social media and on the internet otherwise. This includes chats on Discord, where he had joked that the gun that was used to kill Kirk was "in a bush near UVU".

2. Family history

A spokesperson of the church has confirmed that Robinson was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has two younger brothers. Meanwhile, his parents have been married for 25 years and the family often took vacations to Disneyland, Hawaii and Alaska.

3. Joking about 'doppleganger'

Just hours after the shooting Robinson said on Discord that it wasn't him but his "doppleganger" who killed Kirk and that the other person wanted him to get into trouble for the murder.

4. Political inclination

Robinson's family has confirmed that he had grown political in the recent years and had brought up Kirk's UVU visit during a debate on whether Kirk spread hate. Reports also said that no records have been found of Robinson being affiliated to a political party but he is listed as an eligible voter. However, he was delisted after he skipped two general elections.

5. Family's role in his arrest

Officials say Robinson’s own family played a decisive role leading to his arrest in the case. According to Governor Cox, “On the evening of September 11, a family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident.”
