Mehul Choksi, the co-accused in the PNB fraud scam, has told a Mumbai court that he is not in condition to visit India to face the trial in the case. According to a report by the Economic Times, Choksi, who is currently living in Belgium, has conveyed to the court that he is suffering from ‘blood cancer.’

In his special plea filed in the Mumbai court, Choksi claimed that he is suffering from chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. In his plea, the ET report said, Choksi has submitted his medical reports as well. He has also filed an opinion by a doctor based in Antwerp that Choksi is ‘100% incapable’ to travel. An official quoted by ET said that Choksi should return home as there are several world class doctors who can treat him without any issue.

Previously, Choksi had claimed that he was suffering from mental health issues after alleged kidnapping in Antigua. In fact, Choksi had claimed that government officials from India had attempted the abduction.

India has been probing the $2billion bank fraud and has agencies have sought Choksi’s custody. He and his nephew Nirav Modi are the accused in the case. Choksi is now a citizen of Antigua and is currently living in Belgium for cancer treatment. Nirav Modi, on the other hand, is lodged in a British jail for over six years now. New Delhi has been trying for his extradition without any success.
