Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the 115th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday, issued a strong warning against the rising threat of “digital arrest” frauds. In his monthly radio address, he also highlighted that while investigative agencies have joined forces with state governments to combat this issue, public awareness is essential for individuals to protect themselves from such scams.
“Beware of digital arrest frauds. There is no system like digital arrest under the law. No government agency will ever contact you via phone or video call for such an investigation,” PM Modi said. He outlined three essential steps for ensuring digital security: stop, think, and take action.
“Follow these 3 steps to stay safe: stop, think, take action. First, stay calm and do not panic. Record or take a screen recording if possible. Second, remember that no government agency will threaten you online. Third, take action by dialling 1930 to connect with the national cyber helpline and also inform police about such a crime," said the PM.
Furthermore, to illustrate the tactics used by fraudsters, the Prime Minister presented a video demonstrating how criminals impersonate officials from various agencies, such as the Police, CBI, and RBI, to instill fear and extract sensitive information from their victims.
“These fraudsters impersonate police, CBI, Narcotics, and RBI officials. Using such various labels, they converse as fake officers with a lot of confidence,” he noted.
The Prime Minister urged the public to actively participate in the fight against cyber scams and called on educational institutions to organise awareness campaigns.
In addition to addressing cybercrime, PM Modi hailed the burgeoning impact of Indian talent in the animation industry. He noted a wave of creative energy in India, stating that ‘Made in India’ and ‘Made by India’ are gaining recognition on the global stage.
Furthermore, he remarked on the progress toward an 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India), highlighting that the country is now exporting defense products to over 85 nations.
