Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at an event in Gandhinagar, hit out at the Opposition for doubting India’s past airstrikes, asserting that this time, there is solid evidence to back the action.
Speaking about Operation Sindoor -- launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives - the Prime Minister said that nine terror camps were destroyed in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in just 22 minutes.
"This is a land of the brave. Until now, what we used to call a proxy war, after the scenes witnessed post May 6, we can no longer make the mistake of calling it a proxy war. The reason is that when nine terrorist hideouts were identified and destroyed within just 22 minutes, it was a decisive action," the Prime Minister said.
"Aur iss baar toh sab camera ke saamne kiya taaki hamare ghar mei koi saboot na maange (… and this time everything was done in front of the camera so that no one at our home asks for proof),” he said, taking a jibe at the Opposition.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out targeted strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of May 7.
Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions.
The on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.
"During India’s partition in 1947, the country was divided into three parts. Soon after, the first terrorist attack was reported in Kashmir, and Pakistan occupied one part of Kashmir. Had we killed these Mujahideens, if we had listened to Sardar Patel, he wanted the Army to not stop until we get back PoK… For 75 years, we suffered, and what happened in Pahalgam was a distorted form of that attack," the Prime Minister said in Gujarat.
