Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a telephonic conversation with Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, focusing on the escalating situation in West Asia and strongly condemning recent strikes on key infrastructure.
"Had a fruitful discussion with the King of Bahrain, His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa. Conveyed warm greetings on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr to him and the people of Bahrain," PM Modi said in a post on X.
During the exchange, Modi emphasized the wider consequences of such attacks, noting, "We discussed the current situation in the West Asian region. Condemned attacks on the energy and civilian infrastructure in the region, underscoring their adverse impact on global food, fuel, and fertiliser security."
He also reiterated the need to maintain secure and open maritime routes, stressing the importance of uninterrupted shipping movement. The prime minister thanked the Bahraini leadership for its continued support towards the Indian diaspora residing in the Gulf nation.

This marks Modi’s second interaction with the Bahraini monarch since the outbreak of hostilities following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, and Tehran’s subsequent retaliation targeting multiple Gulf locations.
Separately, PM Modi spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday, where both leaders highlighted the urgency of dialogue to ease tensions. Macron criticized the escalation triggered by Iran’s attacks on Gulf energy facilities and called for direct engagement between Washington and Tehran, though Iran objected to his remarks for overlooking US and Israeli actions.
Political voices in India also weighed in on the situation. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said diplomatic outreach by leaders such as Modi and Macron is crucial for global stability. Meanwhile, Manish Tewari pointed out that tanker movement through the Strait of Hormuz hinges more on insurance and war-risk premiums than military intervention, reflecting the broader economic stakes of the conflict.
