Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday disbursed the 21st tranche of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme during an event in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Under this instalment, over ₹18,000 crore was transferred directly into the bank accounts of nine crore farmers across the country.
During his visit, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Natural Farming Exhibition and participated in the South India National Farming Summit. He interacted with farmers from the region and toured the exhibition, which featured a wide range of agricultural products and a dedicated section highlighting plant and crop growth techniques. Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi accompanied him during the programme.
The South India Natural Farming Summit 2025, being held from November 19 to 21, has been organised by the Tamil Nadu Natural Farming Stakeholders Forum. The event seeks to promote sustainable and chemical-free agricultural methods, with a focus on natural and regenerative farming as a climate-resilient and economically viable approach for India’s agricultural landscape.
The summit will also work towards strengthening market access for farmer-producer organisations and rural entrepreneurs. Innovations in organic inputs, agro-processing, eco-friendly packaging, and indigenous technologies are among the key areas being highlighted. More than 50,000 participants, including farmers, natural farming experts, scientists, suppliers and stakeholders from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, are expected to attend.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi was in Andhra Pradesh to mark the birth centenary of Sri Satya Sai Baba. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Devotion without service, knowledge without compassion, and action without societal contribution hold no meaning.”
