While chairing the meeting of Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of National Democratic Alliance-ruled states in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly warned BJP leaders against making controversial remarks on Operation Sindoor.
According to NDTV, PM Modi advised that leaders avoid speaking on every issue and thereby making unnecessary statements.
After the Pahalagam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, India launched Operation Sindoor. The operation struck nine locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. These included Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bahawalpur, Rawalakot, Chakswari, Bhimber, Neelum Valley, Jhelum, and Chakwal. The total number of missile strikes stood at 24, making this the most extensive single-day precision operation India has ever executed.
While Operation Sindoor attracted global attention, controversial statements of some BJP leaders regarding it made headlines in the recent past, leaving the party embarrassed.
Accoridng to Economic Times, PM Modi also suggested that there is a tendency among certain leaders to speak on everything whenever the media puts a mike in front of them.
Madhya Pradesh minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Shah ignited a row with his controversial remarks on Colonel Sofia Qureshi, a decorated Indian Army officer.
"They (terrorists) killed our Hindu brothers by making them remove their clothes. PM Modi ji responded by sending their (terrorists') sister in an Army plane to strike them in their houses. They (terrorists) made our sisters widows, so Modiji sent the sisters of their community to strip them and teach them a lesson", PTI quoted the BJP leader as saying in a gathering.
Shah’s remarks were criticised by the Opposition and led to the registration of an FIR against the minister on the orders of the high court.
BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Ram Chander Jangra appeared to criticise the women who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam attack on April 22. “They became victims because they lacked heroic qualities, enthusiasm and zeal,” the MP had said.
He was addressing a gathering at Haryana's Bhiwani during an event to mark the 300th birth anniversary of visionary 18th-century Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar. "The women who lost their husbands lacked the warrior spirit, enthusiasm and zeal... Terrorists do not spare anyone because they fold their hands. Our people died with folded hands... Had the tourists passed the (Agniveer) training, three terrorists could not have killed 26 people,” Jangra said.
Asked later how he expected the women to fight against terrorists, the MP said, "Ahilyabai Holkar was a woman, so was Rani Lakshmibai, did they not fight? We want our sisters to be brave and live courageously."
The Congress on Sunday objected strongly to BJP MP Ram Chander Jangra's remarks that “tourists should have put up a fight against terrorists in Pahalgam”, demanding his sacking and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's apology in the matter.
