Pakistan opened fire at some places across the Line of Control (LoC) on Friday morning to which the Indian Army retaliated effectively. The firing comes amid the ongoing standoff between Indian and Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people.
There were no reports of any casualties as yet, as per sources.
"Small arms firing at some places on the Line of Control were initiated by the Pakistan Army. Effectively responded to by the Indian Army. No casualties," the Indian Army said in a statement.
Further details are being ascertained, officials said.
At least 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed when terrorists opened fire at Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam town in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the killers of Pahalgam will be pursued 'to the ends of the earth' and promised to “identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers”.
Leaders across party lines on Thursday called for decisive action against terrorism and terror camps, and assured the government of their full support. "The opposition has given full support to the government to take any action," Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said after attending the all-party meeting convened by the government on the Pahalgam attack on April 24.
In wake of the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack, India announced several diplomatic measures including suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 and closing the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari among others.
After India's stern actions, Pakistan on Thursday put the Simla Agreement and other bilateral accords with India on hold, suspended all trade and also closed its airspace for Indian airlines
