Pakistan opened fire across the Line of Control (LoC) on the intervening night of April 25 and 26. The Indian Army has retaliated with small arms. This comes amid the rising tensions over Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people.

"On the night of the 25th-26th of April 2025, unprovoked small firing was carried out by various Pakistan Army posts all across the Line of Control in Kashmir. Indian troops responded appropriately with small arms," Indian Army said in a statement.

There were no reports of any casualties.

This is the second consecutive day that Pakistan violated ceasefire along the LoC in Kashmir.

At least 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed when terrorists opened fire at Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam town in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the killers of Pahalgam will be pursued 'to the ends of the earth' and promised to “identify, track and punish every terrorist and their backers”.

The terrorists behind the Pahalgam attack have been identified as Adil Hussain Thoker, Hashim Musa alias Suleiman and Ali Bhai alias Talha Bhai. Anantnag police has also announced a Rs 20 lakh reward for providing information on the absconding terrorists.

In wake of the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack, India announced several diplomatic measures including suspending the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, expulsion of Pakistani military attaches, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 and closing the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari among others.

In its response, Pakistan announced shutting its airspace to all Indian airlines and suspended trade with New Delhi. Pakistan also rejected India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and said any measures to stop the flow of water belonging to Pakistan under the pact would be seen as an "act of war".
