Pahalgam terror attack: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov calls EAM Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and discussed issues of Russian-Indian cooperation.

They also discussed the Indian-Pakistani relations following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

The Russian foreign ministry said that Sergey Lavrov called for settling disagreements between both the nations on a bilateral basis by political and diplomatic means per the provisions of the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999.

The ministers also discussed the schedule of upcoming contacts at the highest levels.

Terrorists on April 22 killed 26 civilians in Jammu & Kashmir's Pahalgam. This incident, the deadliest in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack, was initially claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy group linked to the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). However, TRF later denied any involvement.

The Centre, in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, announced several several diplomatic measures against Pakistan. These included the closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals—with a 40-hour deadline for their return—and a mutual reduction in the number of officers stationed at the High Commissions of both countries.
