At least 26 people were killed and many others were injured in a terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday evening, with most of the victims being tourists from other states. Being the deadliest strike on civilians in the country since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, this adds to the long string of terror attacks against civilians in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, is believed to be behind Tuesday's attack.
Authorities released the names of all the 26 victims, including an excise inspector from Bihar, US-based Kolkata techie, Nepalese national and Navy officer, who lost their lives in the devastating terror attack. The incident took place at Baisaran, often referred to as "mini Switzerland" for its panoramic views. The site is especially popular during the spring and summer months.
