Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that two out of the three terrorists killed during Operation Mahadev yesterday had Pakistani voter ID cards and were also carrying chocolates made in the neighbouring country.
Speaking during the debate on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha, Shah came down heavily on senior Congress leader P Chidambaram for questioning during an interview whether the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack were indeed from Pakistan.
"Where did they come from? Where did they go? Whose responsibility is it? It's our responsibility. But who was responsible for things that happened under your rule," Shah said.
He questioned Chidambaram, the former home minister of India, for seeking proof of the identity of the terrorists.
"I felt very sad yesterday ... former home minister Chidambaram asked for proof that terrorists indeed came from Pakistan. He raised this issue during the Parliament debate on Operation Sindoor ... what is he trying to prove. What will he get by trying to save Pakistan," he asked.
"I want to tell Chidambaram sahab, we have proof that I would like to present before Parliament. Two out of three terrorists had Pakistani voter ID cards. We have their rifles. The chocolates they were carrying were manufactured in Pakistan. They deny that the terrorists were Pakistanis," he said.
Shah added that the former home minister is giving a "clean chit" to Pakistan before the whole world with his remarks.
Earlier, Shah said that all the three terrorists killed in an encounter in Srinagar on Monday were involved in the Pahalgam attack.
"All three terrorists - Suleman, Afghan and Jibran were killed in yesterday's operation. The people who used to supply food to them were detained earlier. Once the bodies of these terrorists were brought to Srinagar, they were identified by those who were kept detained by our agencies," he said.
Meanwhile, after a row erupted over his remarks on Operation Sindoor, Chidambaram on Monday suggested that his remarks were taken out of context. “The worst kind is a troll who suppresses the full recorded interview, takes two sentences, mutes some words, and paints the speaker in a black colour,” Chidambaram posted on X.
