In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor – initiated in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack – the Indian Army intercepted and neutralised over 600 drones sent from Islamabad in retaliation to missile attacks targeting nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), CNN-News18 reported citing defence sources.
The achievement was driven by the swift deployment and resolute action of India’s air defence systems.
As per the sources cited by CNN-News18, over 1,000 gun systems and 750 short- and medium-range missile systems were operationalised along the western border -- swiftly transitioning India’s air defence network from peacetime posture to full combat readiness overnight.
All about Operation Sindoor
In response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, India carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under what it called as 'Operation Sindoor' on May 7.
Pakistan retaliated over the next three days, attempting to hit Indian military bases. All the incoming missiles were neutralised by the Indian Army.
The two countries reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes.
On the operation launched by India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it was India's new policy against terrorism and the country's unwavering pledge for justice.
"It is the new normal. We have only kept in abeyance our operations against Pakistan and the future will depend on their behaviour," he said.
Modi had also sternly warned Pakistan that India will not succumb to nuclear blackmail and sent a clear message to the world: terror and trade, terror and talks cannot go together.
When Pakistan adopted an aggressive military stance by targeting border cities and Indian military installations, the Indian armed forces responded by deploying a layered air defence system, integrating both static and mobile platforms to counter the aerial threats.
