More than 35 lakh will be deleted from the electoral rolls in Bihar as part of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ahead of the 2025 state assembly elections, according to News18.
According to the EC, this includes, 12.55 lakh deceased voters (1.59%), 17.37 lakh voters who have permanently shifted out of Bihar (2.2%), 5.76 lakh duplicate entries (0.73%). These were identified through ongoing door-to-door verification and form submissions by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across the state.
As of Monday, the EC reported that the SIR exercise has reached 88.18% of the total registered voters in Bihar. Out of 7.90 crore electors, over 6.60 crore (83.66%) have already submitted their Enumeration Forms (EFs), while another 5% were found to be invalid entries.
Two rounds of door-to-door verification have been completed so far, with nearly 1 lakh BLOs preparing to launch the third and final round. These efforts are supported by around 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties, each authorised to certify and submit up to 50 EFs per day.
Additionally, to ensure urban voters are not left out, the EC has announced special voter awareness camps across 5,683 wards of 261 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Bihar.
For voters who have temporarily migrated out of state, the EC is leveraging newspaper ads and direct outreach to encourage online form submission. According to the EC, voters can fill EFs through the ECINet app or the voter portal https://voters.eci.gov.in. They can also send EFs via family members or through messaging platforms like WhatsApp.
