Operation Sindoor diplomacy: Why India chose these 32 countries for its anti-terror campaign

Five more of these nations are expected to assume UNSC membership shortly, Misri added during his briefing on Monday.

India, on Wednesday, kicked off its extensive diplomatic outreach programme, sending seven multi-party delegations to nearly three dozen countries to build global support against terrorism and spotlight Pakistan's role in it.

Notably, this is one of India’s biggest diplomatic initiatives, involving Members of Parliament, senior officials, and former ambassadors. These delegations will visit countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas to present a united political message against terrorism and elaborate and explain New Delhi's counter-terrorism stance.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed three of the seven teams before their departure on Monday.

As part of its massive diplomatic campaign launched this week, the Centre is aimed at countering Pakistan’s long-standing portrayal of itself as a victim of terrorism by presenting what it describes as concrete evidence of Islamabad’s direct role in sponsoring and facilitating terror activities.

According to official sources, the key message being delivered by the multi-party delegations visiting nearly three dozen countries is that the roots of terrorism affecting India over the past four decades can largely be traced back to Pakistan, either directly or through its support of proxy networks.

According to BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, part of Group 3, Misri underlined that the 32 selected countries, all either current, incoming, or influential members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), were strategically chosen for their roles in shaping global security discourse.

Five more of these nations are expected to assume UNSC membership shortly, Misri added during his briefing on Monday.

The countries targeted in this campaign span key regions, including the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain), Africa (Egypt, Ethiopia, South Africa, Liberia, DR Congo, Sierra Leone), Europe (UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia, Denmark), Asia (Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia), and the Americas (USA, Brazil, Colombia, Panama, Guyana). The European Union is also part of the outreach.

The countries include key global players like the US, UK, France, Russia, Japan, and Brazil, along with regional powers in the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia. The European Union is also part of the outreach.

The campaign began with delegations flying out to the United Arab Emirates and Japan on Wednesday. The remaining teams will travel in the coming days.

This extensive diplomatic outreach, launched following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, intends to draw global attention to the continued threat of cross-border terrorism.

Through this initiative, New Delhi is urging international stakeholders to acknowledge the scale of the threat and respond with greater urgency to the challenges posed by terrorism, which India says it has faced for decades.
