A discussion on Operation Sindoor will be held in the Rajya Sabha on July 29, Tuesday, amid continuous demands by the Opposition. The government has allotted 16 hours for the discussion amid the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.
The decision to allocate dedicated time was taken during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) held earlier today, according to a report by CNN-News18.
This comes as Opposition has sought answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he helped broker a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan.
Operation Sindoor was India’s retaliatory response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. As part of the operation launched on May 7, nine major terror camps were targeted by India in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
In the aftermath, Pakistan initiated a series of retaliatory drone and UCAV attacks targeting key Indian airbases and logistics infrastructure, according to an official government statement. These attempts, however, were effectively neutralised by India’s comprehensive and multi-layered air defence architecture.
“Multi-agency intelligence provided confirmation of nine major camps that were eventually targeted in the operation. India’s retaliatory action was based on meticulous planning and an intelligence-led approach, which ensured that the operations were conducted with minimal collateral damage,” the statement read.
The intense military conflict between the two nations ended after a ceasefire agreement was reached during a conversation between the countries.
Calls for a debate on the operation had been growing louder in the past week, with Opposition MPs also seeking responses on issues such as the Pahalgam terror attack, special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and Donald Trump's statements on the ceasefire.
