Haryana government on May 28 ordered state officials to prepare for a mock drill on May 29 soon after the Centre directed the Pakistan-bordering states to organise civil defence exercise under Operation Shield.
In a letter to the officials, the state's additional chief secretary requested to conduct a drill on May 29 at 5 pm.
"Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has decided to hold 2nd Civil Defence Exercise "Operation Shield" in all the districts of States/UTs adjoining Western border of the Country on 29.05.2025. You are, therefore, requested to plan and organize the Civil Defence Exercise "Operation Shield" on 29.05.2025 at 17.00 Hrs onwards in your district & send an Action Taken Report (ATR) directly to the Commandant General, Home Guards and Director Civil Defence, Haryana immediately," the letter said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Centre announced that a civil defence drill will be held in the border states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and J&K on Thursday evening.
The mock drill would reportedly showcase preparedness against potential terrorist threats and would aim at evaluating response strategies in the event of a hostage crisis and terror attack.
