Following the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh on Wednesday that claimed 30 lives, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has directed officials to adjust train services based on the evolving needs in Prayagraj.
Vaishnaw conducted a review of train operations after the incident and visited the 24×7 war room at Rail Bhawan, which has been set up to monitor passenger amenities and train operations. A press release from the ministry highlighted that the Minister instructed officials to remain vigilant and adjust services as necessary.
"The Hon'ble Minister has directed the officials to keep a watch on the situation and operate trains according to both the planned schedule and emerging requirements," said Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information and Publicity at the Railway Board.
The ministry also confirmed that Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar remained at the war room throughout the day to oversee the situation, ensuring high priority for train services from Prayagraj.
At least 30 people lost their lives and 60 others were injured in a pre-dawn stampede at the Sangam area of the Maha Kumbh on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.
The ministry assured that the Railway department is fully prepared to handle any arising situations and will continue to prioritise the safe and efficient movement of passengers.
