Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah said the Delhi terror plot was uncovered because a jilted young girl complained to the police about her former boyfriend.
While speaking at the 23rd edition of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, the CM said the situation reflects deeper security lapses and revealed that he received no advance intel about the suspects.
The CM claimed that he read about the Delhi blast in newspapers. Explaining how the government cannot operate “in silos”, he said, “I read about the Delhi blast in the newspaper. I did not know who carried out the attack... (or) how the investigation was proceeding," the chief minister said.
He also spoke about an unofficial anecdote that he only came to know about via "chatter on the streets". He said that the Delhi plot was uncovered because a jilted young girl complained to the police about her former boyfriend. This led the probe agencies to a network that culminated in tracking a doctor involved in the conspiracy.
"This is the sort of thing that any other chief minister would hear officially. I hear it because there is all sorts of chatter on the streets. The Union territory model does not work," he told HT.
Fifteen people were killed and several others injured in the terror incident on November 10. The authorities have uncovered a white-collar terror module involving several doctors from across the country.
Earlier, Abdullah condemned the blast and said that no religion can justify the killing of innocents with such brutality.
"We must remember one thing. Not every resident of Jammu and Kashmir is a terrorist or associated with terrorists. These are only a few people who have always ruined peace and brotherhood here. When we look at every resident of J&K and every Kashmiri Muslim with a single ideology and think that each one of them is a terrorist, it is difficult to keep the people on the right track," he had told reporters.
