A fourth incident involving a "nude gang" has been reported from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut. Media reports said that the incident has spread panic amongst people, especially women in Daurala.
Police have started an investigation, but no suspects have been caught as of now. The officials have been monitoring the area through drones, NDTV reported. The latest incident that was reported involved two men dragging a woman to a field while she was travelling to work in Bharaala village.
The villagers came to know about the incident when the woman screamed and then freed herself from the clutches of the men. The villagers rushed to the spot and surrounded the fields where the woman was taken. The woman told her family members that the men who took her were not wearing any clothes.
After this incident, the villagers mentioned that this is the fourth such incident and that the incidents that happened earlier had not been reported because of fear and public shame. Rajendra Kumar, the village chief, said, "Villagers initially did not take it seriously. But now there is an atmosphere of fear. This gang has so far targeted only women."
The police conducted a search of the fields and a thorough investigation was conducted in the presence of senior officers. CCTV cameras have been installed in nearby areas for further probe.
"We combed the area with drones and the help of villagers, but did not find any suspects. Women cops have been deployed in the area, and a search is on for the suspects," said the Senior Superintendent of Police, Vipin Tada.
