Two women at a luxury housing complex in Noida had a terrifying ordeal on Tuesday afternoon when they were trapped inside a steam room for more than half an hour after the door jammed shut. One of them reportedly suffers from high blood pressure, adding to the distress of the situation, NDTV reported.
The incident took place at Tata Eureka Park in Sector 150, where residents Parul Chaturvedi and Taruna had gone for a scheduled 30-minute steam session around 12:30 pm. When their session ended, the women tried to walk out of the room but found that the door would not open at all. Despite repeatedly shouting and banging on the door, no staff members or security personnel came to their aid.
This caused the women to panic and both of them began searching for ways to escape and eventually broke through the false ceiling of the steam room, where they found a metal rod. Using it, they managed to smash the door lock and free themselves, more than 30 minutes after being trapped.
"We panicked after we kept shouting and no one was here to help. We broke the door lock and managed to get out after half an hour," one of the women said in a video.
Residents of the complex expressed anger and disbelief at the lack of basic safety measures in society, despite the high charges for maintenance.
The women pointed out that despite paying a maintenance charge of ₹4.25 per sq ft, along with several other fees, the management’s response and overall upkeep of the society and its facilities have been poor.
NDTV further reported that other residents also called out the management's negligence and said that the lack of basic safety measures, despite the high maintenance charges, is of serious concern
The housing society’s management has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident or whether an internal inquiry will be conducted.
