Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating two major infrastructure projects on August 16 that could transform travel across the Delhi-NCR region, potentially reducing the present two-hour-long journeys from Noida to Indira Gandhi International Airport. As per reports, PM Modi will officially inaugurate the Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway this Saturday.
As per a Times Now report, the ceremony will take place on the Dwarka Expressway and the event will be attended by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and other Members of Parliament and MLAs from the Delhi-NCR region.
What is the Urban Extension Road-2?
The UER-2, which will function as Delhi's new "Outer Ring Road," has been designed to provide direct airport connectivity to major areas of Delhi, while strengthening connectivity between NCR cities like Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Rohtak, Jind, and Bahadurgarh.
The ambitious infrastructure project, constructed at an investment of approximately Rs 8,000 crore, features a four-to-six lane expressway that stretches from Alipur on the Delhi-Chandigarh Highway, passing through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, before connecting with the Delhi-Jaipur Highway at Mahipalpur.
The network of expressways will be further enhanced by specialized connector roads linking Bahadurgarh, Delhi-Rohtak Highway, Sonipat Highway, and Gurugram-Sohna Highway, which will ultimately connect to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
As per estimates, the highways will save hours of time for commuting, significantly cut fuel consumption and alleviate traffic congestion on several of Delhi's most heavily used roads.
With construction teams working to complete final preparations ahead of the inauguration, Delhi-NCR commuters may soon experience a permanent solution to the chronic traffic bottlenecks that have long plagued airport travel in the region.
