Pakistan did not receive the kind of support it usually expects from Islamic countries after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the escalation that followed, reported news agency ANI citing sources.
Further the source said that India reached out to several countries, including some members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), despite usually not engaging directly with the group. They said the OIC’s statement came out only after a few days and was not in the usual tone that Pakistan would have expected.
“There was a churning in the group. Pakistan was put to a lot of grief because support from them did not come their way,” the source said. “They try to make it seem like the entire Islamic world is in their corner. That wasn’t the case.”
The sources also said that Saudi Arabia was “very empathetic” towards India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was visiting Saudi Arabia when the Pahalgam attack happened, and Indian officials claim the Saudi response was supportive.
They added that Malaysia also issued a statement saying what happened in Pahalgam was wrong. “There is no Islamic arc of support to Pakistan, which is the narrative they try to peddle,” a source said.
