Visitors visiting India Gate now have been banned from carrying food, bags and pets, as part of the new changes in security and visitor guidelines.
As a result, families and groups are forced to split, some members explore the site while others stay behind to guard personal belongings, leaving many visitors disappointed as they can no longer enjoy India Gate together.
The prohibition on food and sheets has effectively ended the once-popular picnic culture at India Gate. For decades, the lawns surrounding the monument served as a leisure spot for families to relax and enjoy snacks. The new rules have curtailed this tradition in the name of monument preservation.
Additionally, reports suggest that the centre is considering a ban on video recording within the area, which could further limit the visitor experience.
Meanwhile, India Gated doesn't has a locker facility like the Red Fort or Qutub Minar, further causing inconvenience to tourists.
Many visitors have expressed dissatisfaction with the changes. A tourist from Prayagraj said he had to stay behind with the bags while his family entered the site. “There are no lockers, so I had no choice but to wait outside,” he said.
Another traveler called the lack of storage a “major oversight,” while a visitor from Banaras urged authorities to consider the needs of the common public who travel long distances to see the monument.
However, security officials said that these restrictions are part of broader efforts to protect and beautify the site. The newly planted grass and landscaped lawns had reportedly suffered damage from visitors spreading sheets and consuming food. Officials argue that limiting such activities is necessary to preserve the site’s aesthetic and historical value.
They also mentioned that the introduction of locker facilities is under consideration to ease the burden on visitors and improve the overall experience.
