After talks in Egypt, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, on Saturday, said that Muslim nations must work in total unison and work towards mobilising the international community against Israel's plan to take control of Gaza City, Reuters reported.
Fidan was speaking to the media during a joint press conference along with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in El Alamein after meeting Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Fidan had also said the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation had been called to an emergency meeting.
During the press conference, Fidan said that Israel’s policy aims to force Palestinians out of their lands by way of hunger and that it aimed to permanently invade Gaza. He added that there was no justifiable excuse for nations to continue supporting Israel.
Israel, however, denies having a policy of starvation in Gaza, and says that Palestinian militant group Hamas, which killed 1,200 people in its October 2023 attack, could end the war by surrendering.
“What is happening today is a very dangerous development... not only for the Palestinian people or neighboring countries,” Abdelatty said. He added that Israel’s plans were “inadmissible.”
Abdelatty also said there was full coordination with Turkiye on Gaza, and also referred to a statement issued on Saturday by the OIC Ministerial Committee condemning Israel’s plan.
