In a shocking incident in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, an 18-year-old engineering student died by suicide on February 12 after failing the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). A suicide note, in which she apologised to her parents, was found at the scene.
The note read, “Sorry mummy papa, forgive me… I could not do it...” Aditi Mishra, a student of Momentum Coaching Centre in Betiahata, was preparing for the JEE for the past two years.
According to an NDTV report, on the day of the incident, she had spoken with her parents, asking her father to recharge her mobile, but she felt disappointed.
After the JEE results were declared the previous day, Aditi, feeling devastated by her failure, hanged herself in her hostel room. She was sharing the room with another girl at the Satyadeep Girls Hostel in Gorakhpur.
When Aditi’s roommate returned and found no response to her knocks, she peered inside and found Aditi hanging from a noose made of a stole and immediately alerted the hostel warden, who then informed the police.
The authorities recovered a second suicide note as well in which Aditi had written, “This was the end of our relationship... you guys don’t cry... you gave me a lot of love... I could not fulfill your dreams... please take care of Choti... she will definitely fulfill your dreams.”
Aditi's parents, residents of Mishraulia village in Sant Kabir Nagar district, have been informed of the tragic incident. Her body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police have confirmed that the actual cause of death will be determined following the post-mortem, but the circumstances point to suicide.
