MP CM Mohan Yadav requests Home Minister Amit Shah for CBI probe into disappearance of Indore woman in Meghalaya

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has requested Home Minister Amit Shah for a CBI investigation into the case related to the disappearance of the Indore woman, Sonam Raghuvanshi, in Meghalaya.

Taking to X, Yadav wrote, "Madhya Pradesh stands with the family of Mrs. Sonam Raghuvanshi in this hour of crisis. I have discussed this matter with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Senior police officers of Madhya Pradesh are in constant touch with the officials of Meghalaya."

@AmitShah ji to order a CBI inquiry in this case. Every possible effort is being made for the safe return of Mrs. Sonam Raghuvanshi," the X post further read. CM Yadav pushed for an inquiry after Sonam's husband Raja's body was found in the hills of Meghalaya but no trace of Sonam was found.

What is the Sonam Raghuvanshi case?

Sonam Raghuvanshi had gotten married to Raja Raghuvanshi on May 11 and had left for Mawlakhiat village in Meghalaya on May 22. They had checked into a homestay in Nongriat on May 22.

On May 23, the couple had checked out of the homestay and proceeded towards Mawlakhait village without hiring a guide. They reached the village on a rented scooter, police said. Police has also confirmed that the couple's phones were last traced to Mawlakhait village.

On May 23, the rented scooter that the couple had was found abandoned in the Sohrarim village. The two-wheeler was found abandoned at a cafe along the road from Shillong to Sohra. Police soon launched a search operation for the couple.

On May 27, MP CM Mohan Yadav sought help from Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in tracing the missing Indore couple. During the search operations, the Meghalaya Police also deployed drones and sniffer dogs. On June 2, Raja's body was found in the hills of Meghalaya, while the search for his wife continues.

A murder case was registered by the police after a weapon, which is believed to have been used to kill Raja was recovered. The family has demanded that the thorough search for Sonam continues, while Raja's body has now been cremated by his family.
