Ahead of the Tamil Nadu election, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to women’s welfare.
Calling the monthly financial assistance not a scheme but a right, Stalin said in a post on X that the promise made to the women of Tamil Nadu stands firm. “No matter who creates obstacles, I will not retreat,” he said.
The CM said that Rs 5,000 has been credited on Friday morning to 1.31 crore beneficiaries of the Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme — Rs 3,000 as advance allocation for February, March and April, and an additional Rs 2,000 as a special summer assistance.

The Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam (Kalaignar Women’s Rights Grant) is a flagship welfare scheme launched by Stalin.
The scheme provides Rs 1,000 per month as direct financial assistance to eligible women heads of households, with the amount transferred directly to their bank accounts.
Expressing confidence in the support of Tamil women voters, he declared that their backing would ensure another electoral victory.
Looking ahead, Stalin pledged that under “Dravidian Model 2.0”, the current Rs 1,000 monthly rights allocation would be doubled to Rs2,000. “This is the promise given by Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin to my sisters,” he said.
The CM also accused opposition parties of attempting to use the election period as a pretext to stall the women’s rights entitlement for three months. But, he stressed, the promise belongs to the Dravidian Model government, and it will be honoured without compromise. "Using elections as an excuse, they are trying to stall the rights allocation for three months. What was promised was by our #DravidianModel government," he said.
Meanwhile, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) recently unveiled a set of five election promises, including raising social security pensions from Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,000 for senior citizens, elderly widows, unmarried elderly women, women abandoned by their husbands, persons with disabilities, and transgender persons.
