Amid reports of heavy shelling at the border by Pakistan following India's deep missile strikes of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Punjab province, missile debris was found in Makhan Windi, a border village of Amritsar, this morning. Reports suggest the similar debris of what looked like missiles was also recovered found in Jethuwal and Pandher.

Locals said they heard multiple explosions past midnight and debris fell on roofs of several houses, reported India Today.

A video showing a cylindrical missile-like projectile debris found on a field in Makhan Windi was shared by news agency ANI on X.

"I got the information from villagers and we rushed here. This is a live explosive found in fields. Army is here and deciding whether it will be taken from here or defused here," said SHO Jandiala Harchand Singh Sandhu, as quoted by India Today.

Meanwhile, Hindustan Times quoted  advocate Jaswinder Singh saying, "I woke up with a start on hearing the explosion. Soon, other members of the family and relatives in the city started calling up because they had also heard the blast."

Border areas in Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir have been placed on high alert as Pakistan has threatened retaliation following Operation Sindoor, in which Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

All schools in six border districts of Punjab remained shut on Thursday. The schools were closed in Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran districts.

Tensions escalated after Indian armed forces early Wednesday carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke, in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam.
